About and Current Issues

Wendlebury VillageAbout:
Wendlebury Parish Council works to protect the character and environment of the village. There are 7 elected councillors elected in May 2007 for 4 years. Elections run once every 4 terms. The Council works hard to influence the actions of District and County Councils and rigorous communications exist with various local and national bodies.
The Parish Newsletter is full of useful information about what’s on, what’s coming up and useful contact details for the village and beyond, many of which can also be found under Local Info.

Planning your future – a new 15,000 housing development near Wendlebury?

Cherwell District Council has to decide where new homes can be built in the district up to the year 2026. As part of this process various parcels of land have been submitted to the council as being suitable for residential development and the council are consulting with interested groups and individuals as to whether these should be included in their future plan. As a result of these consultations Cherwell District Council will either accept that the land is suitable for future development or exclude it from their final plan.

Two late additions to the consultation document are particularly relevant to Wendlebury residents:-
The first is for 470 acres of land between Weston on the Green and Wendlebury to be allocated for a new town of potentially 15,000 houses or more, complete with schools, shops, etc. In effect, Wendlebury and Weston on the Green would become suburbs of the new town in the same way that Bletchley is a suburb of Milton Keynes.
The second is for the field with the lake at the Bicester end of Wendlebury to be allocated for a development of 70 houses.

These developments would clearly impact Wendlebury and your Parish Council is holding a meeting for all residents at Wendlebury Village Hall on Saturday March 15th at 1.30pm. You will be able to find out more about these proposals and how you can take part in the consultation process to make your views known to Cherwell District Council. The consultation period ends on April 7th, so time is of the essence.

We hope as many residents as possible will be able to come along on the 15th March.

After all – it’s your future.

Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust are looking for members and have asked us to tell as many people as we can? There is a leaflet and an application form on the village notice board if anyone is interested.
Secondly The Highways Agency have asked us to remind people that hedges and bushes should be trimmed by owners both to prevent injuries to pedestrians and prevent visibility issues for drivers. They have also said that if people have a particular concern they should contact the landowner rather than the Highways Agency.

Flooding: At an emergency meeting of the Parish Council, flooding in the village was discussed and it is intended to put together a flood plan as soon as is possible. The Council will be contacting both the Environment Agency and Thames Water to see if there is anything that can be done to mitigate flooding in any way.

Issues from May Minutes

  • £100 from the Village of the Year competition: A suggestion has been made that this money be used for the planting of another tree in the play area of the Village Hall for extra shade and/or also for a new picnic bench (it has been noted that the benches are requiring some attention).
  • Annual Spring Clean: This had taken place and there had been lots of volunteers on the day. The Parish Council thanked all those that took part. It was noted that along with the normal ‘litter’ a number of full dog litter bags had been left in the verges – they should be taken home and placed in the green domestic waste bin.
  • Wendlebury Gate Stables application has been withdrawn. The Motocross application has also been withdrawn and the council has been informed by the District Council that another application is not expected. The extension at ‘Brookside’ has been approved. The application for Dumbleton’s Woodyard has been withdrawn and a new application is expected.

Election of Councillors

None of the 7 seats for Wendlebury Parish Council were contested at elections that took place in May 2007 and therefore the present Parish Councillors remain in post.

Annual Litter Pick: April 07

Thanks to everyone who volunteered on our annual Litter Pick, we had the work done in a record 1 ½ hrs! Items recovered included a set of mattress springs from the brook and a quantity of gas canisters; more unpleasantly we also recovered a large number of used dog waste bags from the hedges at the edge of the village.
Could we ask people to refrain from dumping these items in the hedgerows, as it is not very pleasant for your fellow villagers to recover them when we do the clean up. The Parish Council is already looking into the cost of installing Dog Waste Bins, and the emptying fees, and will be discussing these again at the next meeting.
If anyone would like to make any comments on the above then please feel free to speak to any Parish Councillor who will be happy to take your views forward, details of councillors can be found on the notice board and on the website.

Issues from January 07 Minutes
