Village Friends-
First, I want to post our deepest condolences to the Bennings -- I just learned of Peter's passing this evening, and am in a bit of a shock. Peter and Rosemarie were so generous and patient and supportive as our landlords whilst we let 3 Farriers from them. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and the village at this sad time.

As some of you know, after some 3 years of study at Oxford, we reluctantly left the village in a couple "shifts" in late 2006. Joelyn and the children -- Faith (8), Christy (6), Jonathan (4), and Seth (2) -- left in mid November, to spend time with friends and family in the western States before the uproar of packing and moving. I then had our household goods packed up and watched the lorry drive off with everything in late Nov. After a few more weeks in Oxford, I came over to Virginia, U.S.A., to arrange a letting before joining my family in the state of Nevada for the holidays. As of early January, we settled into our new home here, just 20 miles south of America's capital city, and I am learning the ins and outs of my new job in a military HQ.

The Nowlins - for the Wendelbury Village website

We want to make public our most sincere thanks to our wonderful neighbors and acquaintances there in the village. Everyone there in Farriers Mead were such dears! Our children all miss Laura, Faye, and Sophie, their favorite babysitters. The girls miss Muriel, their art teacher -- but her artwork in our home keeps the village alive for us! The parishioners across the benefice were always so welcoming and patient with our family when we "invaded" the village churches on Sunday mornings with our whole brood. The Red Lion became a favorite for our family for the great food, including the takeaway pizzas -- thanks for being so kid-friendly! Finally, Anna, Otto, Mim, and Alice brought such wonderful friendship, beautiful music, and deep joy into our lives - thank you, and eternal blessings for your generosity!

We will be back in the area in mid-2007 for my DPhil viva, and will do our best to come 'round again for a pint at the pub. Until then, we can be reached at teamnowlin@gmail.com. If anyone needs our phone or post address, please drop us an email and we'll reply straightaway.

Again, thank you for all the love and warmth Wendlebury provided us while we lived in the UK. Blessings to you all-
Very Respectfully,
Scott, for all the Nowlins

P.S. Attached is a photo of us taken Christmas 2006 to share on the website. Cheers!

Happy 2007 to all in Wendlebury. I doubt if there are many who remember me or my family. We initially lived in Rectory Close when it was first built in about 1965 and then my parents (Marjorie and Michael) took over the Red Lion a couple of years later. My mother died in 1976 and my father in 1990 but my sister Brigit and brother Paul are both well.
I remember when the village had 2 shops and a post office but no village hall which is obviously a tremendous help in improving village life. It was good to visit the website and see that Wendlebury is still a vibrant pleasant village to live in despite the lack of post office/shop.

Hi there Wendlebury,
It's been a long time since I lived in Wendlebury. Howard and I (Karen) now live in Somerset just south of Bath. We have lots of fond memories of living and working at The Red Lion. We haven't been back for a while but when we all have some free time we will have to visit. Our boys are doing well at school. Brody is 12 and is at secondary school. He plays rugby and cricket and Connagh is 9 and is an up and coming cricket pro!!!!! Howie is in the Police Force as a Community Support Officer and I work part time, so to look after the boys. We are all well and send Christmas wishes to the village.
Regards,

Hello,
I lived in Wendlebury for about three weeks in the summer of 2003. More accurately, I lived in one of the farmer fields just outside the village for those three weeks. Being a part of Eberhard Sauers' archaeological excavation we often wander into your village at night and invaded the Red Lion on mass for some hot food and drinks. I must say that everyone in the village was very amicable to us foreigners and strangers. Currently, I live right downtown Toronto. But often I find myself looking back to those summer days in Wendlebury as an idyllic time. Your village has definitely found a happy spot in my heart. I hope to one day return to visit and if my luck is with me it will be for more then an afternoon stroll down memory lane.
Warmest Regards,
Shawn Smith
